This custom software and touch table was created by Ideum for SoCalGas’ [H2] Innovation Experience, a proof-of-concept smart home powered by its own renewable hydrogen microgrid. I was the lead software developer for this project and built the application in Unity.
The H2 application allows users to explore a 3D model of the H2 home and its onsite hydrogen generating components. These included a Solar Panel, Battery, Electrolyzer, H2 Storage, Blending Skid, and a Fuel Cell. Live data for each of the components is updated through API web requests every 30 seconds. Each time data is pulled successfully, it is saved to a local file, which is then used as fallback data if the application can’t reach the Aveva Data Hub. 24 hours of data is saved, allowing users to scroll through a timeline to observe how hydrogen creation and consumption changes over the course of a day. At the same time, a dynamic skybox updates in real time to reflect the correct time of day.
The [H2] Innovation Experience recently won an award from Fast Company. You can read more about the award and see some video clips of the software at this link.
