This was a freelance project that I took on for Meow Wolf’s 4th permanent installation, The Real Unreal, in Grapevine, Texas. The Credits Kiosk allows visitors to explore all of the different artwork and spaces in the exhibition, along with all of the talented humans who helped make them happen. I was the lead software developer and collaborated with Meow Wolf staff designers, backend database engineers, and project managers.
This application was developed in Unity and runs on a 1080p touchscreen kiosk. The dynamic text content is loaded on startup with a GraphQL web request to Meow Wolf’s online Hasura database. Media is resized and downloaded through web requests to CloudFlare then cached to memory for fast loading. The app is structured in a way to allow the software to easily adapt to displaying content from any of the Meow Wolf venues.
There is so much mystery involved in the story and execution of the artwork at any of the Meow Wolf exhibitions. I’m proud to have been a part of this project not only because it gives visitors an opportunity to find a piece of art or storyline that they may have missed, but because it highlights that all of these exhibitions were created through the collaboration of hundreds of people.
